A Lions Life of Service Celebrated!

Since December 1, 1964 the world has experienced much sadness and despair with world hunger in third world countries and 9-11; war in Vietnam and Iraq; exhilaration when man walked on the moon; racial freedom with the release of Nelson Mandela, technological expansion with personal computers; love and humanity with Lions Centennial and through it all one man continued to serve his community for the better of humanity.

Today, Lion Eric Lomond is celebrated among his fellow Lions for his 55 years of dedicated service to Lions Club International and his fellow humankind. Beginning his volunteer career in St. George’s, NL in 1964, Lion Eric and several other men in the area chartered the St. George’s Lions Club.

Raising his young family, Lion Eric eventually moved to Stephenville where he didn’t skip a moment of volunteering at weekly bingos, community events, fundraisers and more as a member of the Stephenville Lions Club. A club he, today, is still quite active in and can most often be found happiest in the kitchen.

Lion Eric was recently presented with a Certificate of Recognition from Member of the House of Assembly for the Stephenville-Port au Port area, John Finn. During his presentation, MHA Finn remarked on the importance of volunteering in our province and the world as a whole. He recounted stories his mother told him of Lion Eric and his grandfather as Lions in St. Georges, NL. He also spoke of the impact of Lions gathered in the room on his own life and thanked the Stephenville Lions for their continued contribution to the community.

A surprised Lion Eric accepted his certificate from MHA Finn as his fellow Lions celebrated him with a standing ovation. Club President Lion Corinne Tulk, in turn, also congratulated Lion Eric on 55 years of volunteerism and thanked him and many others for decades of service as “positive role models with much to teach.”
