Happy Birthday Canada

Stephenville Lions Club helped Canada celebrate its 149th birthday with sun, fun and lots of laughter!

With musical entertainment by Ginger Bennett, fun activities provided by the Stephenville Leisure and Rec and juicy and tantalizing hamburgers and hotdogs, bbq’d to perfection by the Stephenville Lions Club it was a recipe for a great party…but what is a birthday party without cake?…no worries we had that too!

With the sun shining and children laughing everyone who joined the festivities at the Stephenville Lions Club had a great time!

Lions commemorate 100 years of Beaumont Hamel

Stephenville Lions Club members, dressed in gold, stood respectively during the Memorial Day ceremony held at the Royal Canadain Legion Synotath. While most Canadians know July 1st as Canada Day, in Newfoundland and Labrador, it marks a day of sadness. Memorial Day marks the anniversary of the fighting at Beaumont-Hamel during World War 1, when thousands of Newfoundlanders were lost and families left grieving the loss of many loved ones.

July 1, 2016 marked 100 years since the beginning of the Battle of the Sommes and was remembered throughout the province.  Local service organizations and cadet corps stood at attention as wreaths were laid to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live freely in this province and country we call home.
